Referee Training

Level 9 Entry Level - The "recreational referee" entry level training course is an 8 hour course. It is designed to provide entry level referee skills and information through classroom and field training for candidates to referee youth games (U-11,12,13,14) at a recreational level only. Participants must be at least 12 years old prior to attending this course. This course is geared primarily to 12-13 year olds. Those individuals who are 14 or over should complete the Level 8 course. Administration of the USSF written examination is included. Minimum passing score is 75%.
Level 9 Entry Level Course Listings - Courses are added to the web site as soon as they are approved, so check back periodically.

Level 8 Entry Level - The Level 8 Entry Level training course is a 16 hour course. It is designed to provide entry level referee skills and information through classroom and field training for candidates. Emphasis is on preparing for youth program participation - including recreational and completive games. Field emphasis is on practice of specific procedures. Participants must be at least 14 years old prior to attending this clinic. Administration of the USSF written examination is included. Minimum passing score is 75%.

Costs - There are costs associated with becoming a referee - you should budget for approximately $100. A course fee of approximately $20-$30 (depending on area) covers the costs associated with attending the course. A registration fee of $20 (Level 9) or $25 (Level 8) covers your registration with the United States Soccer Federation. You'll also need a new uniform. Entry level starter uniform kits run around $54 (Source: http://www.officialsports.com/starter_kit_main.htm).

Game Fees - Depending upon your availability, you can quickly earn back your startup costs. Game fees range anywhere from $10-$50 (depending on age level and position) for youth games.
